The Young Professional Network (YPN) is here, on the move, and growing strong.
To date, we have more than 90 members (members are between the ages of 21 to 40), with the promise of many more to join with an interest of effectuating change and awareness of South Florida’s young Black professionals. The YPN is on an unprecedented path and has much work to do. As a fledging addition to The Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce, the YPN has setup up four initiatives to champion and generate awareness needed for young Black professionals to grow professionally, socially and in their civic involvement. am proud to announce that the four initiatives of the YPN are on the path for success. The Social Committee, chaired by Malaika Moran, put together its first event. This event was titled “Cigar Aficionado 101” and introduced the Cigar Aficionado interest and lifestyle to the attendees of the event. We were taught that whether you are a smoker or not, the lifestyle surrounding this indulgence is one of elegance, sophistication and is available for all to experience. For those that missed the event, please be assured the Social Committee has as full calendar of great events to come.
The Business Committee, chaired by Patrick Range, conducted its first meeting and is postured for great things. Subcommittees were created and action plans were discussed. This committee will spark the entrepreneur in all of us and may even inspire careers and/or political advocacy.
The Civic Committee, chaired by Thamiah Tutt, has brought the community to us, by creating a calendar that inspires participation and awareness of what is going on and needed in the community. Please join her and the rest of her committee members in making our civic actions deliberate and purposeful. The YPN intends to show South Florida that we will lead by example.
The Mentorship Program is off and running and many of the YPN participating members have begun to forge important relationships with their mentors. The Mentorship Program is part of the YPN to serve as an added component to enhance the social, civic, business/political involvement for young Black professionals in South Florida. We all can use an experienced ear. We all can benefit from the wisdom and life experience of those that have reached levels of success. Therefore, the Mentorship Program helps give YPN member participants yet another tool for success in South Florida.
The YPN is a movement that is here to simulate change, effectuate growth and awareness in South Florida. The YPN is committed to its initiatives but can only be what its members make of it. This is an opportunity to make South Florida aware that there is a network of like-minded, forward thinking individuals who are vital, available, and willing to participate in keeping South Florida a diverse ideal area for business, pleasure and entertainment.
